Ingredients

1/3 cup butter, softened2/3 cup packed brown sugar1 large egg3/4 cup all-purpose flour2/3 cup whole wheat flour2 teaspoons grated lemon zest1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg1/4 teaspoon salt1/4 cup fat-free milk1 cup chopped dates

Preparation

In a bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add egg; mix well. Combine the flours, lemon zest, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Stir in dates.

Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 325° for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire racks to cool. Store in an airtight container.
